Cano-Morales Elected to URI Foundation Executive Board

Anna Cano-Morales ’91 Will Serve a Three-year Term on Volunteer Board Overseeing Fundraising and Endowment Management

Anna Cano-MoralsKINGSTON, RI – August 26, 2009-  The University of Rhode Island Foundation (URIF) Executive Board has announced the election of its newest board member.  According to URIF President Glen R. Kerkian, Anna Cano-Morales, a 1991 alumna of the University, and Associate Vice President for Grant Programs at the Rhode Island Foundation, was elected at the URIF annual meeting held on June 21, 2009.

 Cano-Morales, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in human science and services at URI, will serve a three-year term on the 28- member board chaired by George Graboys, who was elected to his post at the close of 2008. 

 Graboys said, “Anna’s demonstrated commitment to serving the community combined with the fact that she is a product of a public education provides her with the credentials to become a valuable board member.  She is a most welcome addition to the Foundation Board and we look forward to her playing an important role.”

 Established in 1957, the URIF Executive Board is an independent, 501(c)(3) corporation charged with managing the University’s endowment portfolio and all fundraising and development activities on behalf of the institution, which is in the midst of its $100 million Making A Difference capital campaign.  As of June 30, 2009, the campaign was pacing ahead of schedule, having raised $94.3 million toward its $100 million goal by December 31, 2010. 

 Cano-Morales, of North Providence, earned a master’s degree in social work from Rhode Island College, and served as a social worker for a number of years prior to joining the Rhode Island Foundation in 2000.  She has been very active in a variety of community and civic organizations including the Governor’s Urban Education Task Force and presently serves as the chairwoman of the Central Falls School Board of Trustees and as a member of the Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education. For more information on the URI Foundation or the Making a Difference campaign, visit
